So today I decided to make something American. And obviously chocolate chip cookies are perfect. I mean, cookies anytime are perfect. So I looked up my recipe, translated, and my mum and I went shopping. The grocery store we went to today had 3 levels of parking, and 2 floors of foodstuffs. So we parked and went up to the first floor. There we had to pay €1 for a cart, and then we got our stuff. Supermarkets here are more or less the same as America, with different brands. However, in the one we went to, there was like an escalator for carts. Yeah, weird. It was basically like those moving walkways in airports, but with an incline. And the wheels on the carts had some sort of rubber or something so you didn't even have to hold onto it when you were going up. Anyway, my mum is one of those shoppers where if you see it and you want it, you can get it. Which is awesome. At my house in America, we have a certain list and we don't usually stray from it. So we got lots of stuff and I'm looking forward to eating tomorrow with all my options. Lol. But as for my recipe, I needed vanilla. And they didn't have it. Which I find odd, but I guess they don't use it. They just had vanilla sugar, but I decided I could just go without. Also, their brown sugar isn't packed. It's just like regular sugar. Which I found out after we got home, but it worked out. So then we bought everything. Here, you have to bring your own bags, or pay for them. Also, you have to bag your own stuff. So yeah, you have to do a lot on your own. But then we went home.
so these were most of my ingredients. And that white cup? Yeah, that was my only thing I got to measure with. Soooo there was lots of guessing involved. So that was the only problem with the dough part. I never added any vanilla or a substitute, but they turned out well anyway. So I scooped out my first pan, stuck it in the oven, watched, and waited. And as I usually do, I put way too many on one pan, so it kind of ended up being one big cookie. But I just cut it and it worked out. the first batch was a bit too brown, but they tasted friggin awesome.
yeah. One big cookie. So then the second batch was basically the same, except I used aluminum foil so it was so much easier to get the cookies off. After the second batch, my mum and our neighbor Lola tried them, and they couldn't stop saying 'que rico' so I guess I did something right. So then I headed on to the third/leftovers/final batch. And I finally got them the right amount of brown and separated them enough that they didn't all come together. So that was good.
okay, so some of them did join together. But that was a big improvement. So that was my baking experience. It went surprisingly well seeing as I didn't have all the ingredients and I guessed on proportions. But cookies are cookies so I'm happy. And of course throughout the whole baking time I ate like 10 cookies. At least.
so yeah. There ya have it. I've officially baked cookies in Spain.
