news news

It's been quite a while since I last posted, but I haven't had much news. I've been emailing my host mum and getting my visa application stuff in (which is still worrying me). It's been hectic getting all the docs straight but hopefully I'll have my visa on time.

Anyway, my real mum got back from Spain this morning, quite early really, but she had an awesome time and got to meet my future family! She says they're amazing and I'll love it there, which I'm sure I will. She brought back gifts for us all, too. I got a really cute, loose shirt and a fan because apparently they don't have much a/c there. Ugh. But she also got little keychains and the like. However, she said her big spend was $600 dollar shoes! Wow, that's a lot. But hey, they are pretty cute. So now I'm on full-time Spanish speaking with her so I get practice. I'm so lucky to have her.

Another thing she brought back was "the best 100 tapas". A cookbook for appetizers. We've decided to make one a day and I'll be sharing how they work out every once and a while. Today it's canutillos de jamón y queso,  ham and cheese rolls. So far they're looking great, and I can't wait to try them. However, one of the ingredients was 'strong creamy cheese' which apparently is smelly soft cheese to my mum. So we were cookin', ya know, the usual, and I smell this horrible smell. Pretty much, to say frankly, it smelled like butt. So we lay out ham, put cheese slices on it, then put butt mix on that, roll it up, dip in eggs and bread crumbs, and fry it. Sounds delicious. Haven't eaten 'em yet but they look good. So day 1: success!

Sooo yeah. That's that. I also learned I can basically choose my departure date because my host family will be on vacation at the beach (I know! They went without me!) until September, so Cristina (future mum) said anytime after that. So I think I'll choose September 5th because I have a friend going that day. So we'll probably fly together.

So I found this cool quote and I guess I don't have anything else to say, so here it is:

"Simon says, 'Pat your head,' we pat our heads. Jesus says, 'Go therefore and make disciples,' we memorize that verse." ~ Francis Chan
